BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Firefighters with the Bakersfield Fire Department raced to douse the flames of a hotel laundry room on fire at the Four Points by Sheraton on Saturday night.
Fire crews were dispatched to the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel at about 8:20 p.m., near the 5100 block of California Avenue after a laundry room burst into flames. Crews quickly managed to contain the fire to the laundry room to keep it from spreading to nearby hotel rooms.
None of the 90 residents currently staying at the hotel have been displaced. A firefighter was injured after part of the roof collapsed on him.
“Part of the soffit came down and struck one of the firefighters,” said Battalion Chief Mike Lencioni, with the Bakersfield Fire Department. “He suffered very minor injuries. He’s still operating at the scene, refusing any medical care, but it was still a little bit scary for us.”
The firefighter suffered trauma to his hand and suffered minor injuries to his neck. The cause of the fire is being investigated by arson units.
