NWS Marks 10th Anniversary of ‘Snow-vember’ Storm

10 years ago this weekend, a major lake effect snowstorm began to dump more than seven feet of snow across parts of Western New York. The National Weather Service in Buffalo says the double-barreled storm, which has been dubbed “Snow-vember,” began during the evening hours of November 17, 2014, when a band of snow developed south of Buffalo and oscillating over the course of four days. Snow fell at rates as high as six inches per hour in some spots. The highest total snowfall amount reported to the National Weather Service was 88 inches in Cowlesville in Wyoming County. Areas of Chautauqua County along the Lake Erie shoreline also picked up some significant snow from the southern edge of the lake effect band; one location near Fredonia reported 22.7 inches.
