Lincoln County officials continue to warn residents of scam phone calls

LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office continues to receive complaints from citizens about scammers claiming to represent the sheriff’s office.

Victims are continuing to receive phone calls from what shows up on Caller ID as a phone number for the sheriff’s office. It also may show up as a local area landline number.

One resident received calls from what shows up as the sheriff’s office’s main number, 704-732-9050. The resident answered a fourth call and was told that she missed a court date and was going to be arrested if she didn’t post a cash bond. The caller used the name of a former of the sheriff’s office.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind residents that the office does not accept money to cancel a warrant or an order for arrest. All warrants are served in person and not by telephone. Citizens should not provide any personal identifying information over the phone or purchase any money cards, or exchange any money in reference to such calls.
