The Detroit Lions picked up a 52-6 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, as the team dominated from start to finish and improved their record to 9-1. Dan Campbell’s squad has now won eight consecutive games after a 1-1 start and are the clear-cut favorites to capture the No.1 seed in the NFC.
One of the primary reasons for Detroit’s stellar play on Sunday and the entire season has been the dominance of the defense. Despite losing their top two pass rushers, Aidan Hutchinson and Marcus Davenport, for the season, Aaron Glenn’s unit has been stout this year and looks even scarier with the addition of edge rusher Za’Darius Smith.
On Sunday, the Lions’ defense allowed just six points, 170 total yards, and ten first downs. Jaguars quarterback Mac Jones was uncomfortable all afternoon, and Jacksonville’s offense couldn’t find a rhythm or establish the rushing attack.
Though Sunday’s victory has good vibes all around, the injury to starting linebacker Alex Anzalone has clouded some of the excitement from the team’s fantastic performance. The 2017 third-round pick has been a consistent starter for Detroit since signing with the Lions in 2021 but is expected to miss the rest of the regular season.
