Two Killed, 10 Injured in New Orleans Second-Line Parade Shootings
Tragedy struck a popular New Orleans parade on Sunday when two separate shootings left two people dead and 10 injured.
The first incident occurred during a second-line parade in the St. Roch neighborhood. Eight people were struck by gunfire, with two later succumbing to their injuries.
About 45 minutes later, another shooting took place at a nearby intersection, leaving two more victims dead and a third in stable condition.
Police are investigating both incidents and have not determined if they are related. No suspects have been identified or arrested.
New Orleans Police have a history with this particular parade, which has seen violence in the past. Despite assigning additional officers to the event, the shootings occurred, raising concerns about public safety.
Second-line parades are cultural events in New Orleans, involving dancing and music. The tradition dates back to African-American social clubs and is a significant part of the city’s heritage.
