MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A suspect was arrested after police say he shot a man who was squatting at a home next door and refused to leave his property.
Memphis Police responded to the shooting in the 3000 block of Scenic Highway at around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday. When they arrived at the home, they found a man who had been shot in the leg.
The victim told police that he had been squatting at the house next door. He said the owner of the house officers responded to had told him that if he was hungry, he could come to her house and get some food.

He said he saw the light on at the house as he was walking by and announced himself, saying “Excuse me” from the sidewalk.
Reports say the victim then walked up the driveway and DeQuan Williams exited a car.
Williams allegedly threatened the victim by telling him to get out of his yard or he would shoot him. Williams then began shooting at the man, hitting him once in the leg.
MPD arrested Williams, who admitted to having a gun.
