Commission set to transfer Fort Yamhill to Grande Ronde, approve expanded state park fees

The Oregon Parks and Recreation Commission will consider transferring a state park to the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, outlaw beach camping in Brookings and expand day-use fees, among other issues, at a meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday in Keizer.

The seven-person commission oversees the agency that manages Oregon’s state parks and beaches. Public comment is allowed in person and virtually with advanced registration.

The upcoming meeting is being held at the Keizer Event Center and the part of the meeting open to the public begins at 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday.

Transfer Fort Yamhill State Heritage Area to Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde

The commission will consider transferring Fort Yamhill State Heritage Area , in Polk County and west of Salem, to the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde.

The tribes have been co-managing the property since 2023 and would use the 110-acre property as a hub for celebration in addition to keeping the property open to visitors, OPRD said.
