Indiana State Police arrest murder suspect in North Carolina

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WXIN/WTTV) — Indiana State Police announced on Saturday that their Bloomington Post Investigations Unit arrested a murder suspect in North Carolina, following a two-year investigation.

According to ISP, detectives traveled to Fort Liberty, which is located northwest of Fayetteville, North Carolina, to arrest 24-year-old Crown Point native Kenron Laing.

Laing was located and detained at Fort Liberty and later preliminarily charged with murder.

ISP’s investigation began on Nov. 2, 2022. At that time, ISP reported that they were called to investigate the shooting death of then-39-year-old Gildardo Garcia Salina. The shooting happened at Salina’s home in northern Owen County, which was located in the area of North Cataract Road and U.S. Highway 231.

Per ISP, Salina worked for a landscaping company and for a hotel Laing often visited.

ISP said its two-year investigation involved gathering evidence, obtaining an arrest warrant and conducting interviews. Some detectives from the Bloomington Post’s investigations unit also traveled to Chicago for further interviews, according to ISP.
