Local musician lights hands on fire for album cover in Amherst

AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) — Do not try this at home.

On Saturday, a Buffalo man conducted a stunt most would shy away from: He intentionally lit himself on fire.

Damon Gross, a young Buffalo musician, lit his hands on fire for the cover of his new album.

Don’t worry, he was doing it in a controlled area outside of the Creekside Assembly of God church in Amherst, coordinated and supervised by Robbins Stunt Team owner Greg Robbins and the rest of his team.

Robbins has 41 years of experience in the stunt industry with credits that include “The Terminator” and “Cabrini,” which was shot recently in Western New York.

“It’s very dangerous,” Robbins said. “You cannot control fire. We’ve done everything from a hand to a full body and it’s all the same. It’s not predictable at all. So you’ve got to have everything in place, you’ve got to know what you’re doing, and pray.

Robbins also noted that because of the increasing amount of interest in filming movies in Western New York, his stunt team is conducting stuntman boot camps next February.
