A couple from Connecticut have been charged with retail theft in Ramsey County following a crime spree that covered several states, including Minnesota.
Akwele Lawes-Richards, 45, and Jadion Anthony Richards, 44, are held in the Ramsey County jail charged with organized retail theft after they were allegedly caught shoplifting from the Lululemon store at Rosedale Center in Roseville last week.
Charges state that on Thursday, Nov. 14, employees called police after the two were stopped when a security alarm went off as they tried leaving the store. Richards claimed they were being racially profiled and that the employees set the alarm off on purpose.
After the two were identified by their driver’s licenses, they were allowed to leave the store and the alarm didn’t go off again.
According to the complaint, the officer who responded to the incident received a text from a Lululemon employee the day before, saying a large theft had just occurred involving three suspects, now known to be the couple and a third person, a man who has not yet been identified.
