AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Demolition began Monday to make way for the Bridge Builder Community, a tiny homes community aimed to help young adults who have aged out of the foster care system.
For foster children who are now 18 to 25 years old, the organization provides housing, mentorship and a life skills training program.
The 35-hundred square foot tiny home village off Merry Street in Augusta will start with 10 homes, but the goal is to expand to 25 homes.
“We have 11,000 young adults in the state of Georgia that are in the Child Protective Services,” said Dr. Jackson Drumgoole, founder and CEO of Bridge Builder Communities. “And this is one just one motion or one move towards making sure that we provide the scaffolding and support so that they can be supported, get the life skills training, the mental health counseling, the education and the workforce initiatives. And we can do that as a community. And again, the city of Augusta is doing a phenomenal job in supporting that effort.”
