DENVER (KDVR) — Thousands of families in Denver could be without Thanksgiving meals this year as an annual charity event is in danger of being canceled for the first time in decades.
The Epworth Foundation feeds thousands of families a year through several different food programs. One of the biggest is the annual Feed a Family event around Thanksgiving, an event that needs to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars this week to continue.

Feed a Family began in honor of Denver’s “Daddy” Bruce Randolph, who started feeding people in need in the 60s.
“He also had a really, really big heart and he used to feed people and it started out where he was feeding, it was maybe about 200 people in City Park,” said Xiomara Yanique, program director for The Epworth Foundation
The Epworth Foundation molded the idea into this year’s iteration, giving out Thanksgiving baskets with turkeys and more.
“Two boxes of mac and cheese, they get cornbread, they get corn, green beans, they get cake,” said Yanique.
