California Highway Hero: Dedicated Marin volunteer has adopted four highways, helps with upkeep

Marin County resident Greg Stone is turning anger into action as one of California’s most passionate Adopt-A-Highway volunteers. Since joining the program in early 2023, Greg has adopted four sites, including Highway 1 near Mill Valley and the Rodeo Drive ramps of Highway 101, key gateways to Muir Woods and Sausalito.

Disturbed by the amount of trash polluting the Bay Area, Greg declared, “Instead of complaining, I decided to do something.” His efforts go beyond litter removal. He’s tackling invasive species like French and Scotch Broom to enhance fire safety and protect native plants, partnering with Marin County and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

Driven by commitment, not rewards, Greg’s environmental leadership shines as a beacon for community service.
