Sipsey, AL – A rare 2.5 magnitude earthquake struck northwest of Birmingham early Tuesday morning, surprising residents across the region. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) confirmed the earthquake occurred at 4 a.m. local time, six kilometers north of Sipsey, at a depth of five kilometers. Light shaking was reported by residents in nearby areas, but no injuries or damage have been confirmed.
