UNION (Hunterdon) – Shelbourne Global Solutions is returning to the township with a proposal to build affordable housing and two warehouses on the former Foster Wheeler site on Frontage Road.
The proposal calls for 316 townhouses, all of which will be affordable units, on the west side of the 112-acre property.
That, according to Shelbourne, will meet the township’s newly proposed affordable housing need of 305 units.
The company is also proposing two warehouse buildings totaling 640,450 square feet on the east side of the property.
Truck traffic, according to the developer, will be directed from Interstate 78 to Frontage Road and back to I-78.
Shelburne said in a press release it will also fund enhanced enforcement of laws to mitigate the traffic impact.
Shelbourne will be hosting an open house for the community 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 26 to present the plans. The open house will be held on site.
The township has a Land Use Board which acts as both a planning board and a zoning board of adjustment.
