Could you hit a man in a wheelchair with your car and leave him? One Florida doctor did.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office provided a press release on November 13, which details how 62-year-old Dr. Gwyn Norman Crump, Jr., struck 53-year-old Richard Taylor with his car on East 124th Avenue on October 12 at 7:35 p.m. and proceeded on driving.
Taylor was in his wheelchair when he was struck. First responders transported him to AdventHealth Fletcher, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
There were multiple witnesses and cameras that helped lead to Crump’s arrest on November 13, over a month later. Crump has been “charged with Leaving the Scene of a Crash With Death”. The investigation is ongoing, but Crump was released from jail on a $75,000 bond on November 15.
Regarding the situation, Sheriff Chad Chronister offers his “deepest condolences to the family of the victim during this incredibly difficult time”. “While nothing can undo this heartbreaking loss, we hope that this arrest brings some measure of closure to their loved ones”, he added.
