Crosswalk safety in Molalla for school children has been on the burner recently when a small grassroots group of locals decided to make their concerns known about the disappearance of a designated crosswalk at Molalla and Frances avenues.
Through letters to the editor at the Herald-Pioneer and plenty of email correspondence, the issue was fleshed out on both sides with a plan in place to improve things in 2025.
The Molalla River School District recently sent out a notice to its parents to explain what is happening with the missing crosswalk and how parents and students can now navigate that area safely.
While stressing overall safety, the notice also touched on the crosswalk at the center of the concerns, stating “The paving of Molalla Avenue over the summer has resulted in a change in the designated crosswalks. Molalla High School students who live west of Molalla Avenue would now need to use the crosswalk at Toliver, as the crosswalk at Frances Avenue no longer exists. The designated cross walk at Toliver Road is located 400 feet south of Frances.”
