PCUN hosts holiday gift drive for Woodburn migrant, farmworker families

Looking to spread cheer this holiday season?

The Woodburn nonprofit Pineros Y Campesinos Unidos del Noroeste is holding a holiday drive to care for migrant and farmworker families in the community.

“I would really like for people to think about migrant families that don’t have a stable place ever,” said Marlina Campos, PCUN director. “Most often many of these families leave a lot of their personal things behind because they have to migrate constantly looking for a job that will put food on their table.”

Gift donations can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday until Dec. 13 at the PCUN office at 300 Young St. in Woodburn.

PCUN’s holiday drive aims to collect gift donations for older children, teenagers and parents since the organization already receives toy donations for younger children.

“The whole family is making a sacrifice, so just giving a little bit of warmth during these days is really nice,” Campos said. “We’re really aiming to be able to get a little something for mom, like blankets or a little self-care kit. Also, maybe like a hygiene kit or warm clothes or shoes for dad because they’re also very hard workers, and they go out there from about 5 in the morning to 5 p.m. Sometimes even later.”
