Christine Drazan returns to role as Oregon House minority leader

Incoming Rep. Christine Drazan, R-Canby, was elected by her caucus as the House Republican minority leader for the second time.

The Oregon House Republican Caucus announced in a press release Monday, Nov. 18 that Drazan, who will soon represent House District 51 in Salem, would replace Rep. Jeff Helfrich, R-Hood River, in the role.

“I’m deeply honored that my Republican colleagues have placed their trust and confidence in me to serve as their leader,” said Drazan in the release. “I’m looking forward to fighting alongside them every day for a future that puts the people of Oregon ahead of political partisanship.

“We have a lot of work to do. The status quo simply isn’t working for Oregon families. Our caucus is united in our resolve to push for policies that put people ahead of politics, to hold those in power accountable for their failures, and to get Oregon back on the right track.”

Drazan first joined the Legislature in 2019 before leaving in 2022 to run for governor. During her first tenure as house minority leader, Republicans fled the Capitol to stall legislation proposed by Democrats such as a bill to address climate change.
