Pensacola International Airport’s new 434-space parking lot is set to open Wednesday , just in time for the busy holiday travel season.
Pensacola Mayor D.C. Reeves said the opening of the new parking lot will add more spaces to the airport, which continues to break travel records.
“I appreciate CW Roberts Contracting for working on that tight deadline and beating the goal to make sure that these spaces are up and going for the holiday season,” Reeves said.
The city paid $4.4 million for the new parking lot, with $2.2 million coming from a Florida Department of Transportation grant and the rest from airport funds.
The lot includes 14 charging stations for electric vehicles. The airport will charge $2 an hour for the lot up to a maximum of $9 a day. A shuttle will provide transportation from the lot to the terminal building.
Pensacola International Airport Director Matt Coughlin told the City Council in May that the new parking lot will increase the capacity of 3,600 parking spaces by about 10%.
