Ocean Beach affordable housing complex opens its doors

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — More than a dozen people who had been experiencing homelessness moved into a brand-new affordable housing complex Ocean Beach on Monday.

Called “The Shores North Beach,” the Abbott Street complex is situated in a facility that used to be a shelter for victims of domestic violence.

Wakeland Housing and Development purchased the old shelter when it closed, converting it into the new apartment complex using grants through programs like California’s Project Homekey.

“I’m thankful. It’s the first time I’ve had my own place,” Arthur Story, one of the new residents of the complex, told KUSI. “I’m really excited. I mean we’re close to Dog Beach — a guy with two dogs couldn’t ask for anything more.”
