50 dogs taken from Evansville home poses population issue in shelters

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — After 50 dogs were taken from an Evansville home over the weekend , several local shelters took part in rehoming the animals. A Town Hall meeting is currently being planned to address animal shelter services in the city.

As previously reported, a citation was issued for the owner of more than 50 dogs in an animal neglect case.

Evansville Animal Care & Control took custody of the dogs which ultimately posed a population issue at the facility.

Mayor Stephanie Terry says partner shelters like It Takes a Village, the Vanderburgh Humane Society, the Dubois County Humane Society, the Warrick Humane Society, PAAWS No-Kill Animal Rescue and Project ARF Evansville helped place the dogs in temporary homes.

It Takes a Village tells us they took in 19 dogs and the Dubois County Humane Society says they took in 10.

“There’s no other way to say it, their efforts saved many animals’ lives this weekend,” says Mayor Terry. “We are grateful to them.”

Mayor Terry says she is currently in the process of scheduling a Town Hall meeting focused on animal shelter services in the city.
