WEST AKRON – The City of Akron held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Nov. 14 to celebrate the official opening of the new Fire Station No. 12 at 112 S. Hawkins Ave. The original Station No. 12, at 1852 W. Market St., was first built in 1952 and has served the community for more than 70 years. The new station is 16,800 square feet and cost approximately $9.5 million. It is a state-of-the-art facility designed to better serve the community and keep the city’s firefighter/medics safer and healthier.
