Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) melted down when Scripps anchor Liz Landers confronted her for focusing on a “bathroom resolution” and not impending job losses for her constituents due to just-announced layoffs.
Mace has spent the week railing against Rep.-elect Sarah McBride (D-DE), who became the first openly transwoman elected to Congress earlier this month, even introducing a resolution to prevent any transwoman from using women’s restrooms on Capitol grounds.
Rep. Mace’s campaign against McBride has included copious amounts of anti-trans language, including consistent misgendering and graphic anatomical references — which continued during an interview with Scripps this week.
The already-contentious interview heated up when Mace accused Landers of “insulting” her and Landers hit back:
LIZ LANDERS: Congresswoman, America is facing a lot of challenges right now. There are wars overseas. We were just talking earlier in our program about Ukraine and Russia. There’s an immigration system that needs fixing. I know you’ve talked about that every day. People are struggling to buy a house, pay for groceries, and especially in your neck of South Carolina, in the Palmetto State. I saw yesterday that Boeing is laying off several hundred employees at the beginning of the year. I’m sure that’s going to impact some of your constituents.
