Russia Responds to Ukraine Attack with Missile Strikes

Russia has launched a barrage of missiles into Ukraine, retaliating for an earlier Ukrainian attack on a military facility in Russia. Moscow had warned against such strikes, sparking fears of an escalation in the conflict.

The attack targeted several cities, including Dnipro, which was hit by a reported intercontinental ballistic missile. However, Western officials have denied this claim.

Russia also fired a ballistic missile from Volgograd, targeting Dnipro. The strike damaged an industrial facility and injured 15 people.

Ukraine’s air force reported shooting down six of the Russian missiles. The attack included a hypersonic missile and seven cruise missiles.

The missile strikes came after air raid sirens sounded in Kyiv, forcing residents to seek shelter. No missiles hit the city, prompting Ukraine to accuse Russia of a psychological attack.

Despite the ongoing conflict, there are concerns that both Russia and Ukraine are seeking to strengthen their positions before potential cease-fire talks. Fears persist that Russia may attempt to blackmail Ukraine into surrendering.

There is also anxiety in Ukraine and Europe over the potential impact of President-elect Donald Trump on U.S. support for Kyiv. Some believe Trump could cut funding, forcing Ukraine to accept a truce that favors Russia.
