Alejandra Chavez and Monica Reyes are in the December 14 runoff for City Council District 1. Chavez received 10,592 votes, 37% while Reyes received 7, 715 votes, 27% in the November 5 General Election.
District 1 covers parts of the West Side and Upper Valley. The winner will serve the remainder of Brian Kennedy’s unexpired term, which runs until 2027. Kennedy resigned his council seat to run for mayor in the 2024 General Election.
City representatives earn $63,038 annually and serve four-year terms.

Chavez: Tackling Property Taxes and Economic Development: I will work to ease the burden of high property taxes by driving economic development and attracting more businesses to El Paso. By expanding our commercial tax base, we can reduce the tax responsibility on homeowners and create better-paying jobs for our residents.
