Art Week in Miami Beach is known for its glitz, glam, and unforgettable parties, but city officials are putting their foot down when it comes to unpermitted blowouts on the city’s most exclusive islands. New rules, approved by the Miami Beach City Commission, aim to prevent massive, club-like events at private homes on Palm, Hibiscus, and Star Islands from Dec. 2-8, threatening to shut down unapproved gatherings—or even arrest hosts if they don’t comply.
Why the Crackdown?
Residents on these swanky islands have been complaining for years about mansion parties turning quiet neighborhoods into chaos zones. Vice Mayor Alex Fernandez says it’s time to restore peace.
“Single-family homes are becoming nightclubs next to where children are living,” Fernandez explained. “We need to stop the commercialization of these neighborhoods.”
Last year’s Art Week saw some legendary, over-the-top events, like a star-studded bash at a $15 million Hibiscus Island mansion attended by Leonardo DiCaprio and Travis Scott, complete with fireworks and a drone light show. But for many residents, the all-night ragers aren’t so glamorous—they’re a safety and noise nightmare.
