Dartmouth Fraternity and Sorority Members Charged in Student’s Drowning Death
Two members of a fraternity and a sorority at Dartmouth College have been charged in connection with the death of Won Jang, a student who drowned in the Connecticut River after attending an off-campus party.
Jang, 20, was found dead on July 7th after being reported missing by friends who noticed he was not at an appointment. Police believe Jang was unable to swim and drowned while swimming in the river with other attendees.
Investigation revealed that the fraternity members had provided alcohol to Jang and other underage individuals at the party. The sorority was also charged for hosting the underage alcohol event.
Jang, a Middletown, Delaware native, was a biomedical engineering student and valedictorian of his high school. He was actively involved in campus organizations and volunteered in the community.
The college’s dean expressed condolences to Jang’s family and friends, stating that Jang was an enthusiastic member of the Dartmouth community who embraced his academic and personal passions.
