An Allegheny County woman was arrested at Pittsburgh International Airport on Friday after a gun was found in her carry-on back.
Allegheny County Police say 61-year-old Lynda Lee of Creighton, did not have a concealed carry permit when the .38 caliber revolver was found during an X-ray machine scan on Saturday morning.
TSA agents contacted police that determined Lee did not have a permit and was charged with a felony.
No one is permitted to bring a firearm through airport security.
The gun stopped on Saturday is the 39 th gun stopped at Pittsburgh International Airport this year. Last year, a record 44 guns were stopped.
The TSA says guns stopped by agents stop security lines and with Thanksgiving travel underway, delays are exacerbated.
“We’re a few short days away from Thanksgiving, and it is crucial for travelers to double and triple-check their carry-on items to ensure that there are no prohibited or illegal items inside because this is the busiest travel period of the year,” said Donald Weston, TSA’s Acting Federal Security Director. “It will be super busy this week and travelers who have prohibited items among their carry-on items will not only delay their checkpoint screening experience, but they will slow down others as well. Don’t be that person. When you’re at home packing for your trip, start with an empty roller bag, backpack, messenger bag or handbag.
Start to pack from scratch so you know with certainty that there is nothing prohibited in your carry-ons.”
