The City of Mobile is taking proactive steps to address flooding issues in key areas through a proposed stormwater modeling project for 2024.
At this week’s City Council meeting, a resolution will be introduced to authorize a $240,000 contract with Thompson Engineering to conduct a detailed assessment of three major watersheds.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to improve stormwater management and reduce the impact of flooding in vulnerable parts of the city.
Targeting Problem Areas
The project will focus on three watersheds, each with unique challenges.
One area of concern is Old Shell Road near the railroad overpass, which has experienced repeated flooding in the past.
The other two locations are the Little Stickney Watershed, bounded by Springhill Avenue, Mobile Infirmary Boulevard, Old Shell Road, and Upham Street, and a section of downtown bordered by Ann Street, Dauphin Street, and South Broad Street.
