Another one gone: Biscuit restaurant closes on South Main Street in Fort Worth

Hot Box Biscuit Club , a success at pop-up events but less so as a boozy-breakfast restaurant in a time of rising prices, has closed, according to the restaurant website .

“Thanks for 5 amazing years Fort Worth!” the website announced Monday night under the headline, “PERMANENTLY CLOSED.”

It was the second restaurant to close in the same day. Zafiros Mexican Grill y Cantina, 5204 Colleyville Blvd., drew good online reviews but struggled in that historically difficult dining market.

Hot Box Biscuit Club opened in 2019 in a 1926-vintage historic building at 313 S. Main St. in the then-new South Main Village shops.

Founders Sarah Hooton and Matt Mobley had drawn crowds for pop-up biscuit brunches. But demand for biscuit sandwiches cooled, and rising expenses had pushed prices to $14 for a fried-chicken-and-pimento-cheese biscuit sandwich.

The website asks visitors to sign up to hear about “possible December events,” hinting at a return to pop-ups.

Nearby restaurateurs have described a parking shortage in the South Main Village neighborhood. However, the new Bocca Osteria Romana restaurant nearby at 411 S. Main St. has become a fast success.
