Kentucky company accused of stealing $2.5M from California workers, taxpayers

A Kentucky-based construction company is facing 31 criminal charges for allegedly stealing more than $2.5 million from California workers and taxpayers.

U.S. Framing West worked on a slew of construction projects throughout the state between 2018 and 2022, including in Los Angeles, Orange, and Riverside counties. California Attorney General Rob Bonta said the company used unlicensed subcontractors on the job, ripping off both the state and its workers.

“We allege U.S. Framing West failed to pay more than $2.5 million in state payroll taxes, meaning they stole $2.5 million from California,” Bonta said.

Bonta also alleged that the company underpaid its workers on a public works project in Cathedral City by $40,000.

“Developers need to stop turning a blind eye and do their part to uphold laws that protect the people and communities that they are building the housing for,” said Matt Miller with the Nor Cal Carpenters Union, which reported the alleged violations to the state.
