CHICAGO – Three businesses were hit during an overnight burglary spree on the Northwest Side.
Zymi Bakery owner Ioannis Tasopoulos was left speechless when his employee called early Tuesday morning to tell him the shop had been broken into. Security cameras captured at least two suspects making their way inside.
“They broke the screen with the cameras, the register, the register open. They got away with $40,” Tasopoulos said.
About 10 years ago, Tasopoulos immigrated to the United States with the dream of starting his own business. For the last three years, he has been selling Greek pastries and European style cakes at Zymi Bakery on Milwaukee Avenue, located on the Northwest Side of Chicago.

He told WGN News he never though his bakery would become a target.
“I felt, like, empty you know? It’s like they steal your house,” Tasopoulos said.
Tasopoulos was relieved no one was working when the burglars broke in after 3:30 a.m. with their faces and heads covered. One of the suspects appeared to be holding a hammer.
