25-year-old man shot in head in Lake View after gun he had been passing with woman goes off, according to police

CHICAGO — A 25-year-old man was shot in the head after a gun he had been passing in a car between himself and a 23-year-old woman went off on the city’s North Side early Wednesday morning, according to police.

Police say the man and woman were passing the gun between each other in the 2900 block of North Pine Grove Avenue, in Lake View, just after 3 a.m. when the gun fired, hitting the man in the head.

He was treated by the Chicago Fire Department, police say, and taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

The woman was taken into custody and charges are pending, according to police, who recovered a firearm at the scene.

Area Three detectives are investigating.
