For the next three days, the L.A. Mission will provide hot meals and much-needed services to those in need.
Dozens of tables were set up on Fifth Street on Wednesday as long lines of people formed in the heart of Skid Row, some semi-permanent residents of the area’s homeless encampments, others coming in for the day with children trailing behind them.

The L.A. Mission’s Executive Chef, Eric Grant, said the team is prepared for what they expect to be a higher volume of people in need this holiday season.
“I did expect an influx just due to the economic situation the country is in,” Chef Grant told KNX News’ Pete Demetriou . “What I’m seeing more of is actually upper-middle-class people coming down to get food.”
Grant said he thinks that with inflation pushing food prices up, many people are struggling to cover the cost.
The Mission has prepared 3,600 pounds of turkey, 1,900 pounds of mac and cheese, collard greens, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and a peach crisp dessert that will be served over the three days.
