MARIETTA — Cobb State Court Clerk-elect Tahnicia Phillips has called Marietta home nearly her entire life.
For as long as she can remember, her mission has been to make a positive impact on the lives of others. Since 2019, Phillips has fulfilled her mission as the court administrator for Cobb Magistrate Court. In that role, Phillips assists Chief Magistrate Judge Brendan Murphy with overseeing all 90 staff members of the Magistrate Court.
During the Nov. 5 General Election, Phillips ran a successful campaign to win the position of Cobb State Court clerk. With her election, Phillips said she plans to continue using her platform to create positive change in the county.
“I’m excited to be … someone that my hometown and my community could vote for. (Marietta) raised me,” she said. “… what goes into these positions is your heart to serve people.”
Beginning in January, Phillips will undertake her new office, which she describes as the heartbeat of the justice system. The county’s state court clerk manages the records of all cases covering traffic citations, misdemeanors and civil cases over $15,000.
