- Poor clock management on final drive costly for Bears in 23-20 loss to Lions on Thanksgiving (newsbreak.com)
The Chicago Bears had a chance to win their game against the Detroit Lions on Thursday, but poor clock management cost them the victory.
With just seconds remaining, the Bears faced a crucial situation. They had the ball near the Lions’ end zone and needed a touchdown or field goal to tie or win the game.
However, a sack and a penalty pushed them back, forcing them to rethink their strategy. Quarterback Caleb Williams tried to call a timeout, but head coach Matt Eberflus decided not to use it.
As the clock ticked down, Williams realized there wasn’t enough time for a field goal. He changed the play to a deep pass, but it fell incomplete, ending the game.
Despite Williams’ impressive second-half performance, the Bears’ six-game losing streak continued. Eberflus said he made the decision to conserve the timeout, but it ultimately cost them the chance for a comeback.
