Driver hospitalized after crashing into Irvine traffic pole, nearly splitting car in half

A man was hospitalized for serious injuries after he crashed into a traffic signal pole in Orange County early morning Friday, police say.

Irvine Police posted a photo on Instagram that shows the traffic signal pole sticking out almost halfway through the car.

In the caption, the police department says the crash happened at 1:03 a.m. on Friday at the intersection of Modjeska and Still Night roads in Irvine.

“We rapidly responded to the scene with our Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) partners,” writes Irvine PD. “They quickly rescued the driver from the vehicle and transported him to the hospital.”

The department says the driver was seriously injured. “Our thoughts are with him during his recovery,” the Instagram caption adds.

Irvine Police did not provide an update on the driver’s status as of Friday evening.

Details are limited and police did not identify the driver nor offer any further information as to what caused the crash.
