Police investigating after train hits Greensboro police vehicle

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — Hilltop Road was closed in both directions for some time after a police vehicle was hit by a train.

“On Thursday, Nov. 28, Amtrak train 76 was traveling from Charlotte to Raleigh at approx. 6:50 p.m. ET, when it came into contact with an unoccupied vehicle obstructing the track in Jamestown, NC at milepost 290.35. There were no reported injuries to the 58 passengers or crew members onboard. Amtrak is cooperating with local law enforcement to investigate the incident,” Amtrak said in a release.

Greensboro police confirmed that it was a Greensboro Police Department car on the train tracks at the time.

No one was in the vehicle.

Karden Chen, a witness who shot video of the incident, said he was panicked on the inside because he had witnessed a similar incident with his own uncle.

“I hope the officer was OK. I was astonished, amazed, and dumbfounded,” he said.

No injuries were reported. Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the crash.
