Rex Block: What does that mean for Arizona weather this week?

According to the Arizona Weatherman, a pervasive rex block will form over the western U.S. over the next week. What does this mean for Arizona? A blocking pattern sets up a persistent weather pattern for Arizona through next Saturday, December 7, 2024.

This persistent weather pattern will be dryer, warmer, and less windy than average over the next week. It will set up a synoptic situation with little to no precipitation for the state over the next seven days. Furthermore, as expected, this upper-level ridging pattern will bring warmer temperatures, especially in the south, and milder temperatures on the Mogollon Rim.

The Arizona Weatherman expects Phoenix’s high temperatures to be 75-80 F for the week and lows in the lower 50s. For Tucson, expect 75-79 F for the high-temperature range and the upper 40s for the lows. For Sierra Vista, expect 68-73 F for the high temperatures and the lows in the low 40s. Up on the Mogollon Rim, the temperatures will be cooler. For Flagstaff, expect highs in the 52-55 F and low temperatures in the 17-22 F range. For Prescott, expect highs in the 62-66 F and lows in the 28-32 F range. Lastly, for Payson, expect high temperatures in the 61-64 F range and lows in the low 40s.
