Chicago Synagogue Shooting Suspect Found Dead in Cell

Illegal Immigrant Dies by Suicide in Jail

An illegal immigrant accused of shooting an Orthodox Jewish man on his way to a Chicago synagogue has died by hanging himself in his jail cell.

Sidi Mohamed Abdallahi, 22, was found unresponsive during a routine check on Saturday. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Abdallahi, a Mauritanian national, was charged with terrorism, hate crime, and attempted murder. He was allegedly met with gunfire from Chicago Police after being identified as the suspect.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office said there was no indication of suicide risk prior to the incident. The Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting an autopsy.

The victim of the shooting suffered a gunshot wound to his shoulder and was released from the hospital after treatment.
