Three Arlington ISD employees are on administrative leave in connection with the so-called “pay to pass” scandal.
Back in October, prosecutors in Houston said they were investigating more than 200 teachers who may have cheated on their certification tests meaning an aspiring teacher could pay someone to take the certification exam for them and get a passing grade.
This week, the T exas Education Agency announced 49 North Texas teachers were involved in this scheme. Dallas, Fort Worth, and many more of our school districts are confirmed to have teachers implicated in this scheme.
A grand jury indicted five people in Harris County for falsifying credentials. Prosecutors say the group made more than $1 million by taking certification tests for teachers who had previously failed. Dallas ISD is second to Houston ISD as the district with the most teachers implicated. Duncanville ISD had eight teachers named, Fort Worth had five.
It will be up to each district to decide whether to keep their teachers on the job as investigations play out.
