Burlington woman wanted, charged with killing man in crash at US 70 intersection

BURLINGTON, N.C. (WGHP) — A woman is wanted and another has been arrested after allegedly killing a man in a crash on U.S. 70 in Burlington , according to police.

At 2:11 p.m. on Oct. 25, the Burlington officers responded to the intersection of US 70 at North Church Street and Beaumont Avenue when they were told about a severe crash.

At the scene, EMS pronounced Jonathan L. Pickard, 57, dead. He was a passenger in one of the cars during the crash, police say. Two other people were left with minor injuries.

Police say excessive speed and alcohol use were factors in the crash.

Police have charged Azalea Angel Hooten, 21, of Burlington, with involuntary manslaughter and speeding. She turned herself in and received a $25,000 unsecured bond.

Officers have also charged and are still searching for Jeanette Leaverne Alston, 55, of Burlington. She is charged with involuntary manslaughter and aggravated felony death by vehicle.
