Festival of Lights returns to downtown Greensboro

GREENSBORO. N.C. (WGHP) — Turning on the Christmas tree lights at Center City Park is a nearly 40-year tradition.

The Greensboro Festival of Lights had a lot more to offer Friday night.

After they lit the tree, the Friday festivities moved over several blocks to Elm Street where thousands of people enjoyed live music, took part in sumo wrestling and even rode a mechanical bull.

William Bauer who was just big enough to get on the ride took it like a champ.

“It’s kind of hard … but it’s OK,” Bauer said.

While Bauer and many other folks nearly face-planted, he says the only issue with the festive night was the weather.

While some people danced to stay warm, Old Saint Nick says he’s seen worse.

“Here it’s great for you folks in the south. There it’s constantly cold, and you have to get adjusted,” Santa Claus said.

While thousands in Greensboro are already in the Christmas spirit, Bauer planned to meet with Santa to discuss his wish list.

“I’m hoping that I get stuff for my bearded dragon,” Bauer said.
