Free app now available for blind and low-vision customers at Walmart

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — After a successful pilot in Florida, Texas and California in November, Walmart has launched Aira’s on-demand visual interpreting service nationwide.

The service connects users to interpreters via smartphones or wearable devices, helping them navigate stores, find deals, place and pick up orders, locate the shortest checkout line and discover in-store promotions, according to a news relase.

Aira also assists with navigating surrounding areas like sidewalks, buses, and parking lots.

Available 24/7, with no reservations or time limits, the service works in Walmart stores, on Walmart.com and in areas near Walmart locations.

Customers can download the app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store .

Walmart’s partnership with Aira is part of a broader effort to enhance accessibility, which includes sensory-friendly shopping hours , expanded adaptive product lines and the introduction of Caroline’s Carts to support customers with mobility challenges, according to Gayatri Agnew, head of Walmart’s Accessibility Center of Excellence.
