Louisiana, Arkansas, or Texas: Which state has most dangerous drinking water?

SHREVEPORT, La. ( KTAL/KMSS ) – A new study has revealed which states have the most dangerous drinking water, and you might be surprised by where Louisiana, Arkansas, and Texas place on the list.

The research was conducted by PFAS Water Experts , an organization on a mission to stop toxic contamination in U.S. drinking water systems. The organization uses legal action to help those who have suffered from contaminated water get justice from industrial offenders who caused the contamination.

The research showed that New York had the worst drinking water in the United States, but an ArkLaTex state was also listed in the top five with New York.

Researchers used data from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on water quality violations in public water systems to determine each state’s ranking. They focused on the years 2019-2023.

There are nearly 150,000 public water systems in the nation.

The analysis focused on contaminants that pose long-term risks, such as lead, and contaminants that pose an immediate danger to health, such as E. coli. Those numbers were compared to the number of people served through public water systems.
