Alachua man charged with possession of firearm while selling drugs

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Telvis Tashay Hall, Jr., 26, of Alachua, was arrested last night for possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony after a traffic stop for loud music.

At about 9:36 p.m. on December 7, a Gainesville Police Department officer conducted a traffic stop on Hall’s vehicle in the 4100 block of N. Main Street because he reportedly heard music coming from Hall’s vehicle from about 20 yards away.

The officer reported that Hall said he didn’t know he could be pulled over for having music audible from more than 25 feet away; he also noted that he could smell marijuana coming from the vehicle as he spoke to Hall, who was the only occupant of the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle reportedly produced about 27.8 grams of marijuana, empty sandwich baggies, and a digital scale. A loaded Taurus 9mm pistol was reportedly found in the glove compartment, and Hall reportedly had a “wad” of $436 in various denominations of cash in his pocket.

Post Miranda, Hall reportedly admitted the marijuana was his but then became uncooperative and refused to answer more questions.
