A suspect fleeing a police traffic stop in St. Paul Sunday evening crashed into a parked car, killing its driver.
The Minnesota State Patrol says a trooper attempted to stop a driver for speeding near Interstate 94 and Marion Street in St. Paul, but after coming to a brief stop, the driver fled.
A state patrol helicopter located the fleeing driver and followed his car. The suspect then crashed into an occupied vehicle in a parking lot at Larpenteur Avenue and Arcade Street. The lone occupant in the parked car died as a result of the crash.
The suspect, a 28-year-old man from Minneapolis, tried to flee on foot but was arrested by a Ramsey County deputy.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, “a taser was used to assist law enforcement in the apprehension of the fleeing driver.”
The suspect has been booked into the Ramsey County Jail pending formal charges.
