Millcreek School Board will create foundation to help fund Gus Anderson Field improvements

Plans to improve McDowell High School’s Gus Anderson Field are on hold while the Millcreek Township School District creates a nonprofit foundation to raise money for the project.

The new Millcreek Township School District Capital Fundraising Foundation will seek and accept contributions to improve school facilities. Athletic fields and other extracurricular facilities that have not been regularly maintained or updated will be the first focus for funding.

School directors authorized the district administration to work with an attorney to create the nonprofit foundation at a cost of about $4,500 during their annual reorganization meeting Monday.

The school board also voted to table a motion to approve design plans for the Gus Anderson project, at the request of district administrators.

“We request that the vote be tabled as we begin fundraising efforts,” Chief Financial Officer Aaron O’Toole said. “Our preference is to design the project with both current and future needs in mind while ensuring that the facility is aesthetically pleasing for the community.”
