The Minnesota men’s basketball team was thoroughly outplayed again on Monday night, falling to the Indiana Hoosiers 82-67 at Assembly Hall.
The Gophers fall to 6-5 (0-2 in Big Ten play) with their second straight loss.
Dawson Garcia once again led the way for the Gophers, tallying 22 points and 4 rebounds on 9-of-15 shooting. Mike Mitchell Jr., who has been dealing with an injury, added 10 points, as did Lu’Cye Patterson, but Minnesota shot just 18.2% from three and was dominated on the glass, second-chance points and bench scoring.
The Gophers hung with the Hoosiers for the first 11 minutes of the game but a 10-0 Indiana run over the next four minutes pushed IU’s lead to double-digits and they cruised from there. The lead swelled to 13 by halftime and was as large as 21 at one point in the second half.
The Maroon and Gold just didn’t play well defensively and doesn’t have any scoring punch outside of Garcia, which could make it a rough next few months.
The good news for Minnesota is they’ll get nearly two weeks off before facing FDU and Morgan State for a chance to get back on track. After that, conference play will kick into high gear.
